Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Musical Chops is an iOS application developed by CodeShark (Pty) Ltd ("we", "us", or "our"). Questions about this policy can be sent to musicalchops@codeshark.co.za.

2. Data we do not collect

Musical Chops does not collect, store, or transmit any of the following:

• Personal identifiers (name, email, phone number, or device ID)
• Location data
• Usage analytics or crash reports sent to external servers
• Advertising identifiers
• Any data shared with third parties

There are no third-party SDKs, analytics frameworks, or advertising networks integrated into Musical Chops.

3. Data stored on your device

Musical Chops stores the following data locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This data never leaves your device:

• Exercise library - names, categories, BPM targets, durations, book references, and notes you add
• Practice sessions - timestamps, total duration, peak BPM, and per-exercise logs
• Weekly planner - which exercises are scheduled for which days
• App settings - preferences such as notification times, stored in UserDefaults

All of this data is deleted when you uninstall the app.

4. Microphone access

The Musical Chops chromatic tuner uses your device's microphone to detect and display pitch in real time. Microphone audio is processed entirely on-device and is never recorded, saved to disk, or transmitted anywhere.

You will be asked for microphone permission the first time you open the Tuner. You can revoke this permission at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone. The rest of the app continues to function without it.

5. Notifications

Musical Chops can send two types of local notifications:

• Daily practice reminder - a reminder at a time you choose
• Weekly summary - a summary of your practice activity for the week

These are scheduled entirely on-device using Apple's notification framework. No data is sent to any server to deliver them. You can manage or disable notifications in Settings → Notifications → Musical Chops.

6. Home screen widget

The Musical Chops widget displays your streak, today's practice time, and exercises completed. It reads data shared via an App Group - a secure, on-device channel between the main app and the widget extension. This data does not leave your device.

7. iCloud and backups

Musical Chops does not use iCloud sync. Your practice data may be included in your standard iPhone backup (iCloud Backup or iTunes/Finder backup) if you have backups enabled - this is handled entirely by iOS and is subject to Apple's own privacy policy.

8. Children's privacy

Musical Chops does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13. Because no data is collected at all, the app is safe for users of any age.

9. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, the updated version will be posted here with a revised effective date. We encourage you to review it periodically.
